Christmas 72' was a watershed event in Marvin’s life. Santa brought him a Fender Strat copy, and a drum set for his big brother Wayne. Having a pianist mother, and a drumming brother, Marv became a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and electronic musician. Artists ranging from The Average White Band to Funkadelic have influenced his lifelong love affair with music.

Marvin's first paying gig came as a rhythm guitarist in the D.C. area go-go band Hot Property playing alongside noted bassist Anthony Wellington of Victor Wooten fame. After one of many impromptu instrument-swap-jam-sessions, Anthony suggested Marvin consider bass as his primary instrument. Marv took this advice to heart and has been holding down the low end ever since. Bass-lore has it that a cute little girl named Michelle was often seen at rehearsal tagging along with her big brother Jacques. She grew up to become internationally acclaimed bassist/recording artist Me'Shell Indge Ocello.

Marvin’s most recent gig playing bass was in the indie alt/rock band 24fps releasing two albums, the eponymous" 24fps" (1997), and "Sin Bella" (2000). 24fps toured the east coast with regular gigs in the Washington, D.C. area, Baltimore, and New York City’s east village. The band was managed by Suzanne Hilleary, and repped by Whitney Broussard.
